Baseball Falls To Oswego 4-3

Shane Wolf hit his seventh double of the season

Oswego, N.Y. -- Two late runs gave Oswego (14-10) a 4-3 win over the baseball team (20-9) Monday. Junior designated hitter Shane Wolf (Lansing/Freeville) led the Bombers by going 3-for-4 with one RBI and senior leftfielder Jeremy Peters (Thomas R. Proctor/Utica) went 2-for-5. Peters leads the team with 13 multi-hit games.

Wolf, who is batting .346, singled to left center in the third inning to drive in junior second baseman Todd Czerno (Columbia/Brainard) for the game's first run. Later in the inning senior first baseman Jason Friedman (Whitney Young/Chicago, Ill.) reached on a fielder's choice to score junior right fielder Rob Raux (Ilion/Frankfort). Raux is third on the team with 24 runs scored.

Oswego answered with runs in the bottom of the third and seventh innings to even the score. Wolf opened the eight inning with his seventh double of the season. Junior Matt Samela (Staples/Westport, Conn.) entered the game to pinch run for him. Samela advanced to third when Friedman grounded out to short and scored on a sacrifice bunt by senior centerfielder Eric Maya (Rome Free Academy/Rome). Oswego scored two runs late in the bottom of the ninth to steal the victory.

Sophomore Pete MacDaniel (Schuylerville/Gansevoort) pitched seven innings, striking out seven and allowing one earned run in a no decision. MacDaniel has pitched 15.1 innings this season and has posted a 1.76 ERA. Only Peters, who has pitched seven scoreless innings, has a better ERA. Sophomore Brian Gardner (Fairport/Fairport) and junior Brendan Conway (St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute/Grand Island) both made appearances on the mound. Gardner pitched 1.1 innings and struck out three, while Conway pitched 0.1 innings and struck out one. Gardner was given the loss to drop to 2-2 on the year.
